The Vézère Périgord Noir area offers a rich heritage to its visitors. Its history stretches from the limits of prehistory to our world today, a legacy of each era is represented in this region.

Discover the "cluzeaux" inTerrasson, some ancient shelters dug out by man dating from the Middle Ages. The Middle Ages are present everywhere not only in numerous villages harbouring Romanesque churches, the great majority being classified MH, but also evidence of f the passage of the Templars at sites such as AjatCondat-sur-Vézère et Le Temple Laguyon.

Many ancient remains of castles, often destroyed during the Hundred Years War, are also present.

Château de Hautefort, dating from the 17th century, is the iconic landmark of the area with its imposing, proud and majestic presence. Not far from there, Tourtoirac invites you to visit its magnificent cave of concretions discovered in 1995 and since nicknamed "the jewel of the Périgord".

Architectural treasures in Vézère Périgord Noir are also the small patrimony present everywhere, from the country crossroads, the smallest or most remote villages, everywhere you will find fountains, dovecotes, wash-houses, dry stone huts... each one, representative of a specific period, will catch the visitor's eye.
