Conservatoire Départemental de la Dordogne Antenne at Terrasson Lavilledieu
The Conservatoire départemental de la Dordogne provides access to musical, vocal and/or instrumental instruction and practice.
Mainly outside school hours except during holidays.
This training is accessible to everyone from the age of 5 years old to adults.
What kind of classes?
It meets the requirements of the charter of the Ministry of Culture concerning the teaching of music in France. Several types of courses are offered depending on the level:
- Musical awakening class for children from 5 years old in group lessons (minimum 6 children). Duration: 45 mins weekly.
- Musical education, choral singing, junior orchestra, instrumental ensemble from 7 years old and for adults. Duration from 45 mins to 1h30 weekly.
- Instrumental instruction in one-to-one lessons in flute, clarinet, saxophone, horn, trumpet, guitar and piano. Starting age is between 7 and 8 years old depending on the instrument and the child.
As access to instrumental training requires daily practice at home, it is essential to have the chosen instrument. The CRD has a bank of string and wind instruments available for rent (except guitar and piano). In each case, it is advisable to seek the advice of specialists, teachers of the chosen instrument, prior to any acquisition.
Group practice is preferred and the students regularly perform in public and take part in the cultural activity of the town in collaboration with the various local players.
The education of the students attending the Conservatoire Départemental de la Dordogne is organised in three learning cycles with an average duration of 4 years per cycle, allowing each student to progress through the curriculum at their own pace. The end of the studies is validated by the CFEM (Certificate of End of Musical Studies). Students considering a professional career follow a more intensive course leading to the DEM (Diplôme d'Etudes Musicales). Entry to the DMS is by entrance examination.
Teaching venue: Ecole de musique de Terrasson opposite the entrance to the Jardins de l'Imaginaire.
